Audrey Plum has a problem. Her parents don’t like pets. They say pets are too much work, too much trouble. When the Pet Library—a place where you can borrow a pet—opens in her neighbourhood, Audrey thinks that it’s the answer to her pet problem. But every check out seems to find Audrey and her friends in yet another pet adventure.

“Stage a protest,” said Nick. “A protest?” said Audrey. “What’s that?” “That’s when people are mad about something and they march down the street with signs and stuff,” Nick explained. “I saw one on TV.” “Like a pet protest?” said Audrey. “Yeah, exactly!” Meet Audrey Plum. She has a problem. A big problem. Her parents don’t like pets. They say pets are too much work, too much trouble. When The Pet Library visits Audrey’s class at school, she thinks that borrowing a pet is the answer to her pet problem. She just needs to convince her parents of that. Audrey will do just about anything to go to the grand opening of the Pet Library. All her friends are going!

Suddenly, Audrey felt something nibbling at her feet. “Hey!” she cried. “Those are my shoelaces!” “That’s Robert,” Marigold told her. “He likes to nibble.” Audrey Plum is borrowing her first pet from the Pet Library. She wants the perfect pet. And she thinks she’s found one. Robert. She just has to keep him—and his big front teeth—away from the turkey rug at home. When Robert turns out to be a bit of a disappointment, Audrey wonders if she might not have a “defective” bunny on her hands. But there are bigger problems...When everyone’s favourite frog Prince William goes missing, Audrey and her friends form a search party to help find him. Is Prince William really lost or was he taken for an evil science experiment at the high school?

“Don’t you like Charlie?” asked Nick. Audrey sighed. “He’s okay.” “But?” said Naomi. “But he doesn’t really do anything. He just swims around all day.” “What else do you expect fish to do?” said Nick. “I don’t know,” said Audrey. “Anything would be nice.” Audrey Plum has her heart set on borrowing a turtle from the Pet Library. But when baby sister Cora ruins her plans, Audrey must settle on a different pet… (drumroll...yawn). A fish. Are fish really the most BO-RING pet, as everyone says? Maybe not. But there is nothing boring about the Pet Library’s newest addition—Agatha. Will she become the next target of mean boy Desmond Crane and his awful practical jokes?
